The Maria Island Walk joins Australian Wildlife Collection

Tasmania’s multi-award winning Maria Island Walk is excited to announce that it has been named one of the 12 founding members of the recently launched Australian Wildlife Collection by Tourism Australia.

Tourism Australia has chosen 12 exceptional wildlife encounters and brought them together under one umbrella. All of the 12 experiences have one thing in common – a commitment to conservation.

With its collection of rare and unusual species, it’s not surprising that Maria Island, a short boat ride off Tasmania’s east coast, is described as the state’s Noah’s Ark – a perfect fit for the new Australian Wildlife Collection. Maria Island is now an island sanctuary and one of the best places in Australia to see wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Cape Barren geese, kangaroos and wallabies. The bird life is also an attraction with 125 species including all of Tasmania’s endemics such as the endangered Forty-spotted pardalote and Swift parrot.

The Maria Island Walk offers a guided three-night, four-day journey on Maria Island which winds through beaches, rainforest and mountains, taking in the dramatic sea cliffs of Fossil Bay, the peaks of Mt Maria or Bishop and Clerk and the largest stand of giant Tasmanian blue gums.
